Jon Thompson

Jon Thompson is passionate about nature and the freedom it offers. Dramatic coastlines, deserted heathlands and rolling countryside, all with ever changing panoramas of intense light, colours and forms that he manages to capture so vividly in his art.

Jon was born in 1967 in Shropshire and now lives in Shrewsbury. He is strongly connected with the Cornish town of St. Agnes, where he spends much of his time exploring and painting the West Cornish coast, an area he paints more than any other. In his home county, it is the Welsh borders that appear so frequently in his work. Strong, rugged, invigorating landscapes, painted with a refreshing overall effect.

Jon constantly endeavours to capture the interplay between the weather and the landscape. Even the colours he uses, cadmiums, umbers, cobalt's, come straight from the land he paints.  In Jon's own words:

"I try to paint generously and without hesitation and as such I try not to lose the first impression. I want my work to show confidence but not lose the intimacy and fragility of the landscape I explore".

Jon is rapidly achieving national recognition through magazine articles and numerous exhibitions in Cornwall, Shropshire, Birmingham, London and now Bath.
