Mark Vidler
Mark Vidler was born (1954) in London and studied fine art at Hornsey Art College and Bath Academy. He also studied Semiology (the study of signs) at the Central London Polytechnic under the artist Victor Burgin. It was this subject that lead to a long term interest in how the eye and brain interpret information in a painting.
Mark started painting in oils at 12 years old and had his first success exhibiting at the Royal Academy summer show in 1974. He has worked in France and the USA and currently has a studio in Wiltshire.
He paints in oils combined with metal leaf. The light on the metal varies the reflective qualities of the painting causing the image to alter with the position of the viewer and the changes in ambient light.
