Mark Leach – A Life in Colour
Private View June 5th from 6.30pm
Exhibition runs until 28th June 2009
Mark Leach was a professional artist for over twenty years and a leading figure in the world of contemporary art. He was President Elect of The Pastel Society, published, and honoured with many prestigious awards both here and abroad before his sudden and untimely death last year in the prime of his career. This is one of the most important exhibitions to be held at Bath Fine Art and it honours his life's work and his enormous contribution to the Contemporary Art Scene.
Mark's overriding passion was always landscapes and the colours that created them. His reason for becoming an artist was his urgent desire to capture this sense of energy and excitement. Conversely, he often tempered the power of his landscapes with the tranquillity of a still life from which he felt ‘a great sense of the spiritual.....a wonderful way of showing respect for the things we hold most dear'. He regarded himself primarily as a colourist, and believed that pastels and acrylics unlocked the true colour that enabled him to reach and reflect a faithful sense of place. The result is utterly sublime, inspiring and graceful, transcending so many of his contemporaries.
This retrospective offers the public a chance to see this important artist's final body of work and a rare investment opportunity.
The Press Evening and Private View will be held at Bath Fine Art, on Friday, June 5th at 6pm. The exhibition runs until June 28th 2009. Private viewings can be organised by appointment.
